Farfetch Competition Entry: Fashion fades, style is eternal

I have recently been contacted by Farfetch, an online fashion
market-place that stocks products from over 300 high-end independent brands,
for an exclusive chance to participate in a competition and potentially win
£250. Farfetch is one of my favourite websites for fashion inspiration; I have spent
a profuse amount of hours browsing through the collections, lusting over the
multitude of luxurious items that the website has to offer – unfortunately I
can’t afford many (most) of the products!

Farfetch has set me the task to create a timeless outfit centred
around the iconic Saint Laurent “Le Smoking” Tuxedo jacket, a piece that will forever remain classic in
style.  For the purpose of the competition, I was required to only feature clothing items from the Saint
Laurent’s collection, available online at Farfetch.
The competition is in celebration of the Yves SaintLaurent: Style is Eternal exhibition  at
the Bowes Museum, that will showcase a comprehensive presentation of the
French designer’s lifelong work, as well as the significant influence it has
had on womenswear fashion as we understand it today.

Taking inspiration from the notion of
“Fashion fades, style is eternal”, I settled on a monochromatic
outfit as black and white can be re-invented and transitioned season after
season. Furthermore, the designer is renowned for gathering inspiration from the
male dress code in order to bring women a sense of social empowerment, by challenging the conventional binary notions of gender, and erasing the preconceptions of what men and women ought to wear. I sourced inspiration
from this original concept and designed an androgynous themed outfit. The androgynous trend encompasses a gender neutral aesthetic by incorporating a combination of masculine and feminine accents; therefore, regardless of the sharp, masculine tailoring, the outfit would,
nevertheless, be brazenly feminine. The outfit above, I believe, is by definition a
realm of constant transition; it is stylish, edgy and unapologetically sexy, thus the perfect fit for not only the woman of today but of the future.

Outfit
breakdown:

Ruched crepe blouse- A white lose fitting blouse is a quintessential in a woman’s wardrobe; this piece of
clothing is versatile and can be worn with jeans, trousers, shorts or skirts, and is therefore
a must have. The ruched detailing around the contour of the neck gives this piece an
added touch of femininity.

Coated leather effect skinny jeans– Leather trousers are infinitely versatile, they are an
all-around piece that can be easily dressed up or down. This slim-fit pair
provides a structured and powerful silhouette, and has the added detail of the front zipped pockets that
gives off a certain element of edge.

Shoes
To complete the look, I opted for the ‘Jodhpur’ ankle boots for the day, and the ‘Janis’ booties for the night. Again, these shoes are classic in style and can therefore be passed over season after season.

Ribbon neck tie and Wide brim hatDapper touches like a hat or neck tie, are items seemingly purloined from a male’s wardrobe, yet bring a chic and sexy element to the outfit as a whole.

Punk bracelet– This chunky statement bracelet with stud detailing, complements the outfit beautifully by giving it a punk-rockish edge.

Clutch bag essentials- The Black leather Monogram clutch features a gorgeous embossed crocodile effect; it is very versatile and perfect for everyday use. The bag essentials include: the Black ‘Classic 51’ sunglasses and the crocodile effect ‘Paris’ wallet, as well as a few beauty must haves, including the infamous YSL Touche Eclat, YSL Rouge Pur Lipstick and the YSL Opium Eau de Toilette

Thank you Farfetch for getting in touch with this wonderful opportunity, I had alot of fun creating this look!

What did you guys think of my competition entry? How would you have styled the Saint Laurent “Le Smoking” Tuxedo jacket?

Lots of Love, Ana
